Service Projects

Service projects are a "good turn that puts Scout spirit into action." Traditionally we have performed a service for our charter organization with Scouting for Food where we collect and donate food for the needy. These service projects help us meet some obligations to our charter organization and Scouting while allowing the scouts to demonstrate the core values of responsibility, cooperation, and compassion. Some of the service projects detailed below are performed every year, providing plenty of opportunities for the scouts to learn and show the core values of respect, citizenship, and faith. All of these service projects, except chair setups and Scouting for Food, are optional but the scouts are encouraged to participate as often as possible. These are excellent character building opportunities that go hand-in-hand with all of the other activities we do in Cub Scouts.

Apex Christmas Parade

Put on by the Apex Rotary, the annual Apex Christmas Parade is a time for scouts to demonstrate the core values of faith and citizenship.

Memorial Day

Organized by the American Legion, this service project entails replacing flags on the graves of former service men and woman at the Apex Cemetery.

Spring Arbor Visit

Spring Arbor is a senior living facility in Apex. Our Pack has done an annual visit to Spring Arbor to spend time with the residents.

Monarchs in Motion 5k

This is an annual fund raiser for our charter organization, St. Mary Magdalene. Our Pack volunteers to help with this event as a service to St. MM and to promote recognition of cub scouts in our community.

Triangle Walk to Cure Diabetes

The Walk to Cure Diabetes is organized by JDRF, the largest nongovernmental funder of type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. The Walk raises funds, awareness, and hope for the millions of people living with and affected by T1D.

The Big Sweep

The Big Sweep is an international shoreline cleanup effort that happens on the 1st Saturday in October. Volunteers pick up trash along lakes and waterways.

Flag Ceremonies

There will be opportunities, at St. MM sporting events, to perform flag ceremonies. This is a perfect opportunity for scouts to demonstrate citizenship before others.

Scouting for Food

A national effort by Scouts to address the issue of hunger. Our Pack has traditionally collected donations as an "entrance fee" for our Pinewood Derby. Our collections are donated to the Western Wake Crisis Ministries.

Tunnels to Towers 5k

The run is sponsored by the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, to commemorate the sacrifice of these FDNY members, and to raise funds to help wounded veterans. Scouts line the 5K route holding pictures of the 343 FDNY members who died on 9/11.
